Sr Jacob Steinman hurls no-hitter, Ks 9 in home opener

There was a lot of drama in relocating our home opener and delaying its start due to heavy rains in the area over the last few days, but it ended up as a fantastic game tonight. Senior P/OF/1B Jacob Steinman tossed a no-hit gem, coming close to a perfect game, walking only 2 while striking out 9.

The Eagles bats were so hot that they ended the game on the run-rule after 4.5 innings, making Jacob’s strikeout tally of 9 all the more impressive. Our offense was almost as efficient as our pitching, scoring 11 runs on 11 hits and 4 walks. Jacob helped himself significantly, going 3-for-3 himself at the plate.

“Jacob has been the ace of this team all four years of his high school career, and we know every time he takes the mound that he’ll put us in a position to win. Things really came together nicely for us tonight in the first home game, with Jacob keeping them out of the hit column and our bats filling ours up”, said team director Jeff Roberts.

The seniors took the opportunity at the closing huddle to present coach Andy with a special gift – an Astros World Series cap. They wanted at least to give him another option for headgear alongside his Yankees cap.

All in all, really a night to remember. Let’s keep it going now Eagles !
