HCYA earns berth in Q-round of Homeschool World Series

For the third year in a row, the Eagles have earned a berth in the Qualifying Round at the Homeschool World Series.

We split our pool games, losing a tough one to the Charlotte Stampede 1-3, before defeating the Richmond Patriots 5-1. We were scoreless in the Richmond game through 5 innings until our bats exploded in the 6th and 7th to score 3 and 2 runs, respectively.

Coach Andy Johnson praised the team’s perseverance, saying “from the earlier game when we scored only one run, through the first five innings of this game, we’d had baserunners but couldn’t get them home. But I’m proud of the perseverance you showed – you kept battling and kept supporting each other. And those runs in the 6th and 7th innings show what can come when you persevere!”

We ended the team huddle offering an a cappella rendition of Amazing Grace to the Lord.

It’s in God’s hands whether we advance to Division I or we compete in Division II. Certainly we are grateful not to be in Division III. But no matter our results, we will persevere and take our joy not in our position in the brackets, but in our salvation in Christ, our commitment to each other, and our dedication to playing hard and doing our absolute best. Go Eagles!
