Good start not enough vs rain-combined Bellaire squad

Rainouts and wet fields have played havoc this fall, but Bellaire isn’t complaining. For the 2nd week in a row, one of their two squads has been rained out, and the players freed to join the other squad vs. the Eagles.

Last week it was Bellaire Red, joined by members of the White squad whose game was cancelled due to a wet secondary field at the Bayland Park complex. This week Bellaire White got the same benefit returned to them by the same wet field.

The Eagles started out strong, claiming a 1-0 lead in a tight ballgame through the first three innings. But in the top of the 4th, Bellaire came roaring back and cruised to the victory, scoring 13 and allowing only 1 more run through the remaining three innings.

Three innings of good baseball isn’t enough against a strong team who will presumably be ranked very high in the upcoming spring 2019 pre-season Texas 6A rankings. We needed a full game of quality pitching, fielding and hitting to beat a quality opponent like that.

This time, sadly, we didn’t get it. But there’s still baseball left to play in this fall season; let’s hope we can string together more than just 3 quality innings next time. Go Eagles!
