Eagles alum reunites with surgeon he canoed through Harvey flood

In the midst of the floodwaters of Hurricane Harvey, with all of the streets surrounding him severely flooded, Dr. Stephen Kimmell needed to get to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center to perform emergency surgery on an adolescent boy. In a moment all of HCYA can feel proud about, a pair of our alumni, Kevin Mikulan and Willy Zeek, risked their lives to canoe the doctor to the hospital.

In one of several memorial ceremonies around our community as we pass the one-year anniversary of the storm, Kevin and Dr. Kimmell were reunited and honored on August 21st by Clear Lake Regional for their courage and selflessness.

Three years after last lacing up his cleats for the Eagles, Kevin is now heading to the U.S. Air Force where he will be a firefighter.

Aim High, Kevin!
